The prices of liquefied petroleum gas on Saipan increased by up to 10 percent this month, according to local suppliers.

DL Corp., the retailing arm of Wushin Corp., said that beginning Feb. 9, its prices increased by an average of $4 per cylinder.

DL Corp. now sells its 90-lb cylinder LPG at $92, while the 50-lb cylinder is now at $54.

DL Corp. sells a 20-lb cylinder at $24.

“Our price is up by 10 percent. It’s based on the worldwide trend of oil prices. Likewise, we raise our prices when our supplier raises the prices,” said DL Corp. manager Joe Digno.

The company also adds a $3 fee for delivery.

Saipan Industrial Gas, meantime, increased its prices by an average of $3 per cylinder effective Feb. 14.

SIG president Dionisio Lopez said a 90-lb cylinder sells at $92; a 40-lb cylinder is $44; and a 20-lb cylinder is $24.

For delivery, Saipan Industrial Gas charges an additional $3-$4, depending on the weight.

Lopez said the company sources its LPGs from Shell.

He said Saipan LPG prices are lower than Guam.

He said his company’s price reflects a $1.1 per pound hike while in Guam, it is $1.20 per pound.

LPG prices had also increased an average of $3 per cylinder last November and December

Suppliers said the demand for LPG normally rises during the winter season, thus pushing up its price.
