PSS moves into first place in Govt caging
The Public School System bumped off the Commonwealth Health Center and now sits on top of the standings of the 2006 Inter-Government Basketball League.
PSS was on fire and handed CHC just its second loss of the season, 92-64.
After dominating the first quarter for a 22-9 lead, PSS made things worse for their opponents as they lit up the scoreboard for 28 points, while limiting CHC to just three field goals for a commanding 35-point halftime lead, 50-15.
CHC finally broke out of its scoring slump and was able to match PSS point for point in the third quarter. Despite the improvement, CHC was still in a big hole as they headed into the final period still down by a mile, 32-67.
It was cruise control from there and PSS finally settled with the 28-point victory margin.
Taj Van Buren led PSS with 21 points, while Gary Lashley and guard Lawrence Buniag supported him with 20 and 17 points.
Tony Raho and Frank Iglecias paced CHC with 16 and 10 points.
In the second game, Procurement and Supply broke into the win column with a 107-78 victory over Department of Public Works.
Edgar Pangilinan was a pleasant surprise as he exploded for 43 points. He pumped in 16 points in the opening quarter to spearhead a 28-14 P&S attack.
After slowing down a bit in the second, Pangilinan went back to his scoring spree as he added 10 points in each of the final two periods.
Mike Guerrero and Ray Takai chipped in 21 and 19 points, while Mike Muna added 12 points for P&S.
Juan Guerrero and Frank Cabrera led DPW with 18 points apiece, while Dennis Norita and Juan Tomokane added 17 and 10 points.
