No surprise, Leong wins King of the Lanes
Kegler Richard Leong continues to rule the Capital Bowling Center as he claimed another Pepsi King of the Lanes Tenpin Bowling Tournament Monday night.
It is no secret that Leong feels a lot more comfortable playing at the CBC as the Multi-Line Supply manager posted the two highest scores of the February edition of the monthly event.
Leong, who last month won the 2005 King of the Lanes championship at the CBC, was phenomenal on Sunday as he recorded the best score of the evening by bruising 898 pins for an average of 224.5 pins per game.
He started off on the right foot after knocking down 215 pins, then improved his game and left his mark on 233 and 253 pins before finishing off with 197 pinfalls.
Although already impressive, Leong was not satisfied and returned the next evening to improve his score. The southpaw broke the 900-mark and finished with 907 pins for an average of 226.75 pins per outing.
Although failing to break the 200-mark in his opening game—199 pins—Leong was able to recover as he left his mark on 224 pins in the second game, connected on 248 pins in his third game, and closed with style with 236 pins in his final game.
Taking home second place honors was youth bowler Raymond Angeles, whose score on Sunday held its ground. The youngster made contact on 198 pins in his opening game, then heated up for 242 and 237 pins before finishing strong with 201 pins for a total of 878 pins and an average of 219.5 pins per game.
Percy Omechelang also put on a good show as he finished in third place after improving his Sunday score of 683 pins to 861 pins on Monday. Omechalang was on fire at the start as he touched 226 pins in his opener, then kicked his game up a notch with a 268 in his second outing. He then cooled off a bit with 199 pins before recording a pedestrian score of 168 for an average of 215.25 pins per game.
Dannie Robles and Rusty Musca also had respectable outings with total pinfalls of 849 and 843, while Jon Eparwa and Joe Sablan finished with 794 and 793 pins.
With the finish, Leong pocketed $150, while Angeles and Omechelang earned an extra $70 and $60. Robles took home $35, Musca $30, Eparwa $20, and Sablan $15.
Others who made it to the Top 10 include Ariel Del Rosario (768), Mikee Guirey (782), and Jun Canillo (772).
The Pepsi King of the Lanes Tenpin Bowling Tournament is sponsored by Pacific Trading Co. and organized by the Saipan Bowling Association. It culminates with a championship tournament at the end of the season where all monthly winners and other qualifiers gather to duke it out for supremacy.
