Argosy offers business degree program
Argosy University is launching its School of Business on Saipan, offering a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree beginning May this year.
Lisa Parker, Argosy University School of Business Interim Program Manager, said this offering is in response to the local community’s interest in the program.
“We’ve been speaking with individuals and business professionals. With the information and based on our own research, it’s positive. There’s a need for this program in the islands,” said Parker in an interview yesterday.
She said Argosy University’s entry to the CNMI was also a result of the Department of the Interior’s sponsored investment conference for insular areas.
She said the program would be offered in the evening and on weekends to cater to working individuals.
Interested individuals can get more details about the program tonight at Café at the Park. Parker’s team will be holding an informational session at 7pm at the café.
She said students should have taken 42 units of general courses from appropriately certified educational institution such as Northern Marianas College to take the course.
Argosy will be conducting classes at NMC campus.
Parker said the program is a combination of onsite and online instruction.
Once finished with the BS program, which takes about two years, students will obtain a degree from Argosy University.
Parker said the university is focused on equipping its students not only with academic knowledge but real-world experience.
“We stress application. We integrate business principles and actual application. Students don’t have to wait until they graduate to apply what they learn,” said Parker.
The university has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with NMC to utilize some of the community college’s classrooms and lecture halls for two major programs: business program and doctorate degree in Education.
The doctorate program, chaired by Kristine Lesperance, began last month at NMC campus.
There are currently four students taking the doctorate program. They are teachers and school administrators.
