3 injured in car-van collision
Three persons were injured when a car and a van collided head-on along a road near Coffee Care in Capitol Hill yesterday afternoon.
Responding emergency medical technicians transported the victims—two men and one woman, all Chinese—to the Commonwealth Health Center. As of press time yesterday afternoon, the three were placed under observation.
The Saipan Tribune gathered that a blue Hyundai Accent car with license plate ABZ-044 was descending the hill, while a white Toyota Previa van with license plate ACE-100 was going up at 3pm.
The car allegedly suddenly encroached the opposite lane, causing a head-on collision with the van. The air bags of both vehicles inflated due to the strong impact.
The male driver of the car slowly alighted from the car and lied on the ground because of the pain. He had no passenger.
The male driver of the van and his female passenger in the front were stocked inside the van. Both could not move because of their injuries. It was the responding emergency medical technicians who carefully assisted the two and removed them from the wrecked vehicle.
Both vehicles had extensive damage particularly on the front left side portion.
Preliminary investigation showed that alcohol was not a factor to the accident. The road was slippery at that time because of earlier rain.
The accident snarled traffic in Capitol Hill for a few minutes. Traffic officers immediately put the vehicles to the side and swept the road of broken glasses.
