Round two of UFO semis resume tonight
The Budweiser-Coca Cola 6th UFO Inter-Organizational Basketball League will hold round two of its round-robin semifinals tonight at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
With their first defeats of the season coming in round one last weekend, both defending champion and Pool A winner Visminda-Tambayan/Nel Atalig and Pool B winner Cabalen-RP Construction/Transamerica are in must win situations.
The top two teams after the round-robin action will then advance to finals, and currently leading are LIPS-Mobil and Samahang Ilokano at Pangasinense-Flor A. Miranda after the two were successful in round one.
Visminda faces LIPS-Mobil in the opener scheduled for 6pm and must win to keep themselves in the hunt. Cabalen faces SIP at 7:30pm and both Visminda and Cabalen must win to remain in the hunt.
If LIPS and SIP win their games, they would secure slots in the finals.
Last week, SIP fought off a double-digit halftime deficit, forced overtime, and stunned Visminda with a 117-107 victory as guard Elmer Esdrelon lit up the scoreboard for 35 points while also recording eight rebounds, three assists, four steals, and a block shot to lead the team.
LIPS then followed up by recovering from a slow start and getting big offensive performances from its big three to beat Cabalen, 95-86.
Kevin Cequena led LIPS with 32 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks while Andres Estolas and Rowell Aranda pumped in 31 and 16 points.
