Three more Fitial appointees will face the Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigations next week.

Sen. Henry H. San Nicolas, chairman of the Senate panel, notified the appointees yesterday that their confirmation hearing would be held Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006, at the Senate Chamber.

Daisy Villagomez-Bier, acting secretary of the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, will meet the appointments committee at 9am Tuesday.

The confirmation hearing for Gil M. San Nicolas, appointed to serve as secretary of the Department of Labor, will follow at 11am.

The Senate committee will also hold a hearing at 1pm regarding the nomination of Gonzalo Q. Santos, who has been named to serve as resident executive director of the Indigenous Affairs Office.

“With the present situation our Commonwealth economy is in, please be advised the committee may have questions they want to address pertaining to the present and future operation of the department during the hearing. Also the committee will entertain comments from the general public and government entities,” San Nicolas told each appointee in a letter.

The Senate appointments committee held separate confirmation hearings on Thursday for Joseph Kevin Villagomez, acting secretary of the Department of Public Health; Ignacio Dela Cruz, acting secretary of Department of Lands and Natural Resources; Jose Demapan, acting secretary of the Department of Public Works; and Mathilda Rosario, acting director of the Office of Personnel Management.

San Nicolas said each appointee would be confirmed effective Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006. On that day, the entire Senate will convene and adopt the affirmative recommendation of the six-member committee.
