D-9ers still D-best in fast-pitch softball
The Santa Rosa II D-9ers continued along the path to the pennant on Wednesday night by knocking off the Seabees ‘4’, 9-4, under the lights of Tan Ge Softball Field in the continuation of the Men’s Island-Wide Fast-Pitch Softball League.
There was little question that the D-9ers would get the league lading eighth win after taking a 7-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning because ace pitcher Jess Peterson was working his magic on the mound.
Peterson allowed just four runs off of seven hits and fanned a pair through seven innings to earn another complete game win for the D-9ers, but he got plenty of help from his hitters to seal the deal.
First baseman Tony Camacho went 3-for-4 for with a double, two triples, and a pair of runs batted in, while second baseman Jerome Delos Santos went 2-for-3 with a singe and a two-run homer.
Shortstop Mel Sakisat also blazed a trail with his bat with a solid 2-for-4 outing at the plate that yielded a double and a three bagger, while right fielder Paul Camacho went yard amidst a 1-for-3 night at the Oleai Sports Complex.
Islanders 7, Kagman Lancheros 1
The Islanders continued to show why they are still a threat come playoff time as they crushed the Kagman Lancheros, 7-1, to open up the evening double-header at Tan Ge Softball Field.
Jess Manibusan was a menace on the mound, allowing just one run off of two hits through seven innings for the Islanders in the hitter friendly game, and his pitching inspired his batters to crank up the offense.
Kagman took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, but the Islanders answered with a pair of runs in the their next at bats and followed with three in the third and singles in the fourth and seventh.
The win brought the Islanders a step closer to the .500 mark, but for now sit safely in third place at 5-6. The youthful Lancheros slipped to 3-5, and are coming dangerously close to losing the final spot in the postseason.
