No Air Saipan chartered flight arrived yesterday as anticipated by the Commonwealth Ports Authority.

CPA executive director Lee Cabrera said his office would initiate communication with the company on this matter.

He said there might have been issues that were beyond the company’s control.

“In fairness, those are tentative plans they shared with us in mid-January,” said Cabrera yesterday afternoon.

He said that, based on their discussion with Air Saipan executives last month, it would bring its chartered aircraft to Saipan on Feb. 15.

Earlier this month, Air Saipan announced the postponement of its scheduled press conference set on Feb. 8.

Air Saipan vice president for international marketing and corporate development Craig Champion had told the local media that details were still being finalized on the chartered aircraft.

The company reportedly planned on chartering a Boeing 757 aircraft from U.S.-based Ryan International Airlines.

Air Saipan aims to provide charter services between Japan and Saipan and later to other markets, including Korea, China, Hong Kong and even Australia.

Air Saipan’s stakeholders placed the company’s initial investment at $3 million.
