Pioneer and former Filipino American Tennis Association president Perry Cacdac has taken the helm of the organization after a brief but meaningful meeting last Saturday.

In a meeting held at the American Memorial Park tennis courts attended by five other past officers of FILATA, Cacdac assumed the presidency vacated by Elmer Guzman late last year. Cacdac takes over the position in a care-taking capacity.

All six attendees agreed that with FILATA still reeling from declining membership, shortage of sponsors because of the tough economic times, and other woes, it was best to leave the tennis organization in the capable hands of Cacdac, an experienced administrator and adviser of FILATA who actually volunteered to be the president rather than leave a leadership void.

Cacdac said FILATA would also consult with Atty. Rey Yana just to make sure if the setup they agreed to last Saturday is allowed by the organization’s bylaws.

Joining Cacdac in the reshuffled FILATA deck are Dr. Alberto Ventura as vice president, Matt Buenabajo as treasurer, and Sally Cacdac as secretary. The meeting was also attended by former president Eli Buenaventura and former secretary Joy Minor.

Last year, FILATA was only able to hold the Powerade Team Tennis Tournament. At its height, the organization regularly hosted a number of tournaments, the most popular being the Powerade, Shell Marianas Open, and Century Insurance Tennis Classic.
