No word yet on the status of Ogumoro brothers
Department of Public Safety Acting Commissioner Juan Wabol has yet to issue an order that would clarify the status of acting DPS police director Capt. Aniceto T. Ogumoro and his brother, range master Ambrosio T. Ogumoro.
DPS Criminal Investigation Bureau chief Maj. Edward H. Manalili, in an interview with the Saipan Tribune yesterday, said there has been no official word yet from Wabol on what actions to take against Aniceto and Ambrosio Ogumoro.
“I need to sit down with the commissioner to clarify the status for both of them [Ogumoros],” said Manalili, who is also the acting DPS spokesman.
Manalili said part of the bail conditions imposed on the defendants is that they should stay away from the DPS headquarters.
When a police officer has a pending criminal case, DPS normally puts the officer either on administrative duty or under indefinite suspension.
The Saipan Tribune yesterday repeatedly tried to contact Wabol, but he was not available.
Police arrested Aniceto Ogumoro on Saturday night, after they raided his house on Capitol Hill where they allegedly recovered three rifles and 25 boxes of ammunitions.
The arrest of the acting police director was made a day after police arrested Ambrosio Ogumoro on allegations he beat up his wife and for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunitions.
Police also alleged that Ambrosio Ogumoro threatened to kill Gov. Benigno R. Fitial and “blow up” DPS. This prompted the Superior Court to initially impose a $1 million cash bail for the range master and $300,000 cash bail for the acting police director.
On Monday, though, Associate Judge David A. Wiseman modified the bail by allowing Aniceto Ogumoro to post $50,000 cash bail or property bond, and permitting Ambrosio to post $1 million in property bond.
As of noon yesterday, lawyers Viola Alepuyo and Joseph James Norita Camacho were still processing the papers in court for the release of their client, Aniceto Ogumoro.
As of yesterday at 3:30pm, the law office of former Presiding Judge Edward Manibusan was still completing the paperwork for the release of its client, Ambrosio Ogumoro.
