A senior student at the Mount Carmel School has been nominated for inclusion in this year’s edition of Who’s Who Among American High School Students.

Jeffrey Deleon Guerrero is among the top 5 percent of students who have exhibited academic excellence and will have an academic biography printed in the 39th edition of Who’s Who Among American High School Students 2005/2006, according to the organization’s national academic affairs office.

Deleon Guerrero was surprised but also excited when he learned of his inclusion. “I didn’t feel worthy. It’s very humbling. I’m flattered that they would accept me out of all these other students,” he said.

The Mount Carmel student will be featured on the 39th annual edition of the book that recognizes high school students’ efforts and academic achievement.

The catalog has been the most respected student recognition publication and award program in the entire nation. The publication’s selection undergoes a stringent process with standards that have been cited by education, parent and teachers associations at the state and national levels.

The son of Joseph and Mercedes, Deleon Guerrero has studied at Mount Carmel for the past nine years. Principal Galvin Deleon Guerrero said he has been a star player on the school’s varsity basketball team, helping the school win the Marianas Inter-Scholastic Association championship in 2005.

Deleon Guerrero has also been active in the school’s Theatre Club and is currently rehearsing for a role in an upcoming production of William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet.

“Jeff is looking toward admission into Eastern Oregon University or Boise State University and one day plans to come back to Mount Carmel School to coach basketball,” the MCS principal said.
