A man was seriously injured after he was allegedly beaten up by a 28-year-old man along a secondary road in Gualo Rai on Friday night.
John Faisao Pua suffered injuries to the head and face. He was placed under observation at the Commonwealth Health Center.
The suspect, Alex Laniyo, was arrested for assault and battery. A $5,000 cash bail was initially imposed for his temporary liberty.
Detective Juan M. Santos said witnesses saw Laniyo and Pua fighting each other along the roadway near Dasom Market.
Santos said Laniyo sat on the victim and punched him repeatedly.
No one tried to stop the fight. One witness later decided to call the police.
When police responded to the scene, Pua was lying motionless on the ground. Laniyo was arrested in the area.
In other news, police arrested a 30-year-old man who allegedly assaulted a male cashier of a store who refused to sell him a bottle of Korean liquor soju in Koblerville on Saturday early morning.
Kfis K. Pino was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon and disturbing the peace. A $5,250 cash bail was initially imposed for his temporary release.
The victim sustained a laceration in the left eye and was taken by an ambulance to CHC.
Detective Santos said Pino had entered CYC Store to buy soju. The cashier refused to sell the liquor because it was already past 10pm.
Pino allegedly got mad and threw a tin cup at the cashier, hitting him on the head. The defendant also threw a trash bin, damaging some items on the shelves.
The suspect then reportedly pulled a knife and threatened to stab the cashier.
Pino then left, but responding police arrested him in the vicinity of the store.
