Tarkong, Camacho wow crowd in Trench main events
All eyes were focused on “The Trench” Saturday night as hundreds of screaming fans witnessed 19 grueling fights and almost blew off the roof of the Trench Tech-Purebred Saipan Gym.
“Trench Warz: Caged In” took center stage, and 17 fights featuring boxing, kickboxing, and no-holds barred fights were just appetizers to what was to come in the two main events.
Tarkong vs Kapileo
Intensity kicked into an indescribable level when Trench Warz coordinator Cuki Alvarez announced that street fighter David Kapileo and Trench Tech’s Jason Tarkong were ready for their main event fight.
All eyes were on the entry aisle as the fighters made their way to the cage, also known as The Trench.
The two did not disappoint as they quickly went at each other exchanging punches and trying to get better positioning.
The fight went to the ground as Tarkong tried to use his ground skills to his advantage. Tarkong managed to work his way behind the body of Kapileo and attempted to execute a rear-naked choke. However, Kapileo was not fooled and was able to prevent the hold by muscling out of the position.
Kapileo used his power to force Tarkong against the fence, but Tarkong was able to work the fight back to his advantage. Tarkong continued to work from behind Kapileo’s body and when the perfect opportunity came, he locked his arms around Kapileo, fell back to the mat, and executed the rear-naked choke that forced Kapileo to tap out.
Despite the intense fight, both fighters showcased true sportsmanship and exchanged a hug after Tarkong was officially declared winner.
It was the second-straight win for Tarkong via rear-naked choke. He fought Kelvin Fitial in “Trench Warz: Fight Night” last November and won with the same move.
Nephew vs Uncle
Prior to the Tarkong-Kapileo bout, fans were treated to a family duel between 16-year-old Frank “The Crank” Camacho and his uncle Mike Camacho.
Frank, who won in November’s main event against Bernie “The Shadow of Death” Neth, was the aggressor of the bout, taking advantage of any opening.
The two went at each other right from the start and found themselves tangled up while still standing on the corner of the rectagon. It was then that Frank unleashed a flurry of knees, many of which connected.
Mike retaliated and connected with an upper cut but as the bout went on, Frank was able to find the same opening and landed another strong knee to the head of his opponent.
From there, Mike dropped to his knees and Frank began pounding away from the back before the referee stepped in and stopped the fight.
Like all the fights preceding the bout, both fighters hugged before vacating the cage.
