13 nominees await Senate confirmation

The Fitial administration has submitted 13 nominations for confirmation by the 15th Senate.

The appointments to various departments, agencies, and boards were transmitted to the Senate between Feb. 1 and 3, 2006.

The nominees include Joseph P. Villagomez to serve as secretary of the Department of Public Health; Ignacio T. Dela Cruz as secretary of the Department of Lands and Natural Resources; Gil M. San Nicolas as secretary of Department of Labor; Jose S. Demapan as secretary of the Department of Public Works; Daisy Mae Villagomez-Bier as secretary of the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs; and Matthew T. Gregory as attorney general.

The Senate is also being asked to confirm the designation of Mathilda A. Rosario to serve as director of the Office of Personnel Management; Gonzalo Q. Santos as resident executive director of the Indigenous Affairs Office; and Elisa A. Long as chief public defender.

Fitial has also submitted the nominations of John Edward Untalan, Gregoria F. Omar, Marian Aldan-Pierce, and Alvaro Santos to the Marianas Public Land Trust.

The Senate has 30 days to act on the nominations.

Fitial has made other appointments. Some of them do not require the consent of the Senate, while others are serving the administration only temporarily. (Agnes E. Donato)
