The Fitial administration has appointed a Public School System officer as the new director for the Division of Environmental Quality.

Frank Rabauliman, PSS Curriculum and Instructions Department Vocational Education Program coordinator, will assume the top executive post of the environmental agency possibly next week.

DEQ public information officer Reina Camacho said that Rabauliman is just completing some work before he vacates his PSS post and move to the DEQ.

Currently, DEQ’s Kevin Castro assumes the environmental agency’s top executive post in an acting capacity pending Rabauliman’s takeover of the office. Former DEQ director John I. Castro has reportedly retired from government service.

Camacho said, however, that Rabauliman already met with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency officials who are currently on-island to discuss matters related to the DEQ’s programs, the bulk of which comes from the federal agency.

The visiting EPA officials include Pacific Islands Office manager John McCarroll, who is based in Hawaii, and CNMI program coordinator Patricia Young, who is based in San Francisco, California. (John Ravelo)
