3 men eyed in EMO storage room burglary
Investigators are looking for at least three men who are allegedly behind the burglary at the Emergency Management Office’s storage room where $54,000 worth of disaster relief supplies were stolen.
Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigation Bureau chief Maj. Edward H. Manalili, in a telephone interview with the Saipan Tribune yesterday, disclosed that investigators are eyeing three suspects in the burglary.
Manalili said that, as of yesterday, they are still trying to obtain more information about the incident to corroborate the tips they earlier received.
“There’s still no arrest yet. We are still building the case to make sure we have a solid case,” he added.
Sources said at least two suspects, including an ex-convict, are residents of Koblerville. The third suspect is said to be a Palauan.
Investigators have expressed optimism that they can immediately solve the case because of the many tips that they received after the Saipan Tribune reported the incident on Tuesday.
On Friday afternoon, EMO acting director Gregorio A. Deleon Guerrero reported to DPS about the break-in that occurred at their storage room, which used to be occupied by the Marianas Public Lands Authority.
The disaster relief packages, worth $800 each, were reportedly among the 130 boxes donated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency when a supertyphoon battered the CNMI sometime in 1998.
