New award program for businesswomen

First Hawaiian Bank and Guam Business are seeking nominations for the 1st annual Businesswoman of the Year Maga’Haga Award. Nominees should be a resident of Guam or the Northern Mariana Islands.

Nominations are welcome from local businesses, civic and women’s organizations.

The program is a cooperative effort to provide recognition to businesswomen who have made a difference and “raised the bar” in the field in which they are involved.
The First Hawaiian Bank and Guam Business Businesswoman of the Year should be:

* A woman who has made a significant difference to business through her organization or through her business;

* A woman who has contributed to her community;

* A woman who is a leading representative of her profession or field; and

* A woman who displays the best qualities of a woman in business.

The Maga’haga [Chamorro term for princess] Award will be given at a gala on May 13, 2006, in conjunction with the release of Guam Business’ second quarter issue, featuring a commissioned photo study of the recipient. Proceeds from the gala will be donated to the University of Guam to sponsor scholarship programs and will be presented to the university at the event.

The winner will be selected by a panel of judges to include businesswomen and leaders in the community. The ideal candidate for the Maga’haga Award will be a woman who has made a significant difference to business through her organization or business, has contributed to the community, is a leading representative of her profession or field and displays the best qualities of a woman in business.

Nomination forms are available at all First Hawaiian Bank branches, the Guam Business office at the second floor of Century Plaza and online at the Marianas Business Journal website, www.mbjguam.net. The deadline to submit nominations is March 15, 2006.
