SPG qualifier this Saturday
The first of many qualifying tournaments for the 2007 South Pacific Games in Apia, American Samoa will be held this Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort west course in Kagman.
Refaluwasch Golf Association president and SPG qualifier coordinator Jess Wabol said the check-in time for the event is at 11:30am with tee off set at 12:21pm.
Aside from forming a men’s team for the Apia, American Samoa SPG, Wabol is also looking at fielding a women’s team for the Games and is encouraging lady duffers to join the tryouts, provided they meet the four-year residency requirement.
In related news, Alex Aquiningoc topped RGA’s February Qualifying Tournament after firing a net score of 67 last Saturday at Laolao Bay Golf Resort’s west course.
He was followed by John Mettao, who wound up two strokes behind with his net 69. There was a six-way tie for third place with Perth, Australia-bound Sasaki Oliver nosing out the rest of the contenders, after organizers went to the scorecard not once, not twice, but three times.
Other duffers that tied Oliver’s 70 were Gus Camacho, youth golfer James Balajadia, Sonny Flores, Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho, and Wabol.
In the closest to the pin competition, Sang Kim bested everyone on the 3rd hole, while Wabol swung without compare on the 13th hole.
RGA would also like to welcome new members Kim, Reno Celis, and Adam Hardwicke to the organization.
