Website aims to change way people travel to NMI
The Visitors Channel has launched a new website—www.saipanagogo.com—on the heels of its new programming on Saipan.
The website has been up and running since Wednesday. The site can be viewed both in English or Japanese and is full of information about the three islands of the CNMI: Saipan, Tinian and Rota.
Visitors Channel president Laurie Peterka said she is very excited about the channel’s presence in the World Wide Web. “Not only can you watch our programming here locally, we can now utilize the Visitors Channel to assist travelers before they arrive on Saipan,” she said.
Peterka said the website was designed to change the way people travel when they come and visit the Commonwealth. Online visitors can actually view streaming videos about the CNMI, as opposed to still images, before they even step foot on the islands, she said.
The website, which is full of vibrant colors, includes information about the CNMI, ranging from what to do and where to stay, to where to dine, up to the minute weather and many other necessary information for travelers.
Visitors Channel consultant and Couture Marketing president Andy Tidwell said two of the key features included in the website are a calendar of events intended keep the travelers up to date about what is going on in the islands while they are here.
“You can now view the Visitors Channel’s current programming on the web when you click on the saipanagogo TV icon found on the website,” he said.
The new programming for the Visitors Channel obviously paid off because, according to the latest QMark Research & Polling results, viewership of the Visitors Channel rose 9 percent over the last year.
QMark interviewed departing Japanese guests at A.B. Won Pat International Airport on Guam. The research, which was interviewer-administered and conducted face-to-face, started last Oct. 1, 2005 and ended on Dec. 8, 2005.
The Visitors Channel is shown on Saipan on Channel 3 and in Guam on Channel 28. The programming is shown 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For more information, visit www.saipanagogo.com.
