Guam Gov. Felix Camacho will sign a proclamation recognizing February as Guam Mentoring Appreciation and Awareness Month at the Big Brothers Big Sisters Annual Appreciation Luncheon today, Feb 7, at the Hyatt Regency Guam.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guam will present Distinguished Service Awards to Citibank Guam and Big Sister Janate Harrison during the luncheon.

In February 2005, Citibank Guam invited Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guam to participate in the Citibank Volunteer Incentive Program, resulting in numerous hours of volunteer support by Citibank employees. Citibank employees are also active in both the community mentoring program and site-based mentoring programs at Tamuning ES and Untalan MS.

Janate Harrison has been a site-based mentor at Benavente MS for over one year now. In addition to mentoring, TSgt Harrison, who is assigned to the 36 CRG unit at Andersen AFB, has assisted Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guam with various fundraising and recruitment efforts, including Breakfast with Santa and Bowl For Kids Sake.

Naim Vaughan, who also mentors at BMS, is recognized with an honorable mention for his recruitment of over 10 volunteers for the BMS mentoring program, and his participation in numerous Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guam outreach and fundraising activities.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guam provides mentoring services to youth 8-16 in the community and in site based programs at 8 schools. For more information about Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guam, call 472-2227. (PR)
