Permit me to comment about an article in Marianas Variety’s Tuesday (Jan. 24, 2006) paper headlined, “DPW repairs road outside Oleai School.”

On Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, the Saipan Mayor’s road crew fixed approximately 8,780 ft. stretch of road from the entrance of Oleai Elementary School down south to the Angey’s residence.

On Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, DPW fixed the road that leads to Texas Road across from the school south to the dead-end, and from the Angey’s to the late Luis M. Limes’ family residence.

In Monday’s paper, Mr. Glenn Muna, vice principal of the school, was quoted as saying, that “The school has been telling the government about the problem for 10 years.”

As I pointed out in my earlier letter, for four years since Mayor Juan B. Tudela took office, that stretch of secondary road was consistently fixed by the Mayor’s staff at least twice a year. Additionally, we trim overgrown vegetation and overhanging tree branches besides the road that may be unsafe to motorists, students walking to the school and nearby residents.

Again, thank you for allowing me to set the record straight regarding the Oleai Elementary School road issue which was published for two days this week.
