An airport police captain was found dead yesterday afternoon near the Saipan International Airport, but investigators believe that there was no foul play behind the officer’s death.

Ports Police chief Pius Helgen identified the fatality as Tommy Alexander, who has been employed with the Commonwealth Ports Authority for about 14 years.

Helgen said Alexander, a 46-year-old resident of Kagman, was off-duty when his lifeless body was discovered.

Airport police received a report about the discovery of the dead body at 5:04pm. Initial investigation by the Department of Public Safety revealed that Alexander was found near his parked car near Continental Micronesia’s cargo offices.

Authorities reportedly rushed Alexander to the Commonwealth Health Center, which officially pronounced the captain dead at around 6pm.

DPS spokesman Eric David said investigators found no indications of foul play behind Alexander’s death.

“He died possibly of heart attack,” David said. The DPS spokesman said it was not clear yet as to whether Alexander just finished jogging or was about to jog when his body was discovered. David said he had no information yet as to who first found Alexander’s body.
