Fil-Taga sets two-day Golfer of the Year tourney
Fil-Taga Golfers Association will be holding its two-day 2005 Golfer of the Year Tournament on Jan. 21 and 22 at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort.
All Fil-Taga Ace of the Month winners are qualified for the season-ending tournament, which first day would utilize the west course and the east course on the final day.
Fil-Taga members that qualified for the 2005 Golfer of the Year are Sen. Pete Reyes (January A Flight winner), Rene Batallones (January B Flight), Ralph Yumul (February A Flight), Glenna Palacios (February B Flight), Mando Guban (March A Flight), Father Manny Corcuera (March B Flight), Capt. Gil Faller (April A Flight), Henry Bautista (April B Flight), Rey Ferraz (May A Flight), Tom Aguon (May B Flight), Lito Mendoza (June A Flight), Mike Cruz (June B Flight), Edgar Abalos (July A Flight), Tony Guerrero (July B Flight), William Retardo (August A Flight), Jun “Tiger” Dela Cruz (August B Flight), Oliver Sasaki (September A Flight), Greg de Torres (September B Flight), Jhun Calma (October B Flight), Lewie Adams (November A Flight), Freddie Cataluna (December A Flight), and Nono Bostre (December B Flight).
Tournament directors Ted “Golden Bear” Malaran and Jun “Tiger” Dela Cruz have set a showtime of 11:30am in the first round on Saturday with tee off set at 12pm. Sunday’s schedule also calls for an 11:30am start and noon tee time.
Aside from the 2005 Golfer of the Year being disputed next weekend, Fil-Taga’s January Ace of the Month Tournament will be held on Sunday, Jan. 22, simultaneous with the second round of the season-ending competition.

Established in 1993, Fil-Taga’s tournaments operate under a computer-controlled handicap system that creates parity among players in the A and B Flights.
A Fil-Taga Ace of the Month champion is crowned monthly. Regular tournaments are scheduled once a month, normally every third Sunday. Green fees are in the $35 to $40 price range for most tournaments. (Mark Rabago)
