The Commonwealth Election Commission has received five more campaign statements of account, bringing to $2.71 million the candidates’ combined expenditures in the Nov. 5, 2005 election.

The new filings were made by defeated Saipan mayoral candidate James A. Ada, Rep. Francisco Dela Cruz, defeated House candidate Melvin Lawrence O. Faisao, defeated Rota mayoral candidate Victor B. Hocog, and defeated Northern Islands mayoral candidate David K. Peter.

An updated summary of candidates’ campaign statements of account showed that Ada spent $4,491.30 more than he raised. Contributions to his election bid totaled $12,448.45, while his expenditures amounted to $16,939.75.

Dela Cruz raised $12,929.96. The election cost him $12,769.40.

Faisao received $6,637.96 from his supporters; he spent $6,901.07.

Hocog, one of the biggest spenders in the last election, spent the entire $62,878.22 that he raised.

Peter collected $400 and spent $356.13.

The Election Commission also corrected the figures earlier released concerning defeated senatorial candidate Andrew Salas’ campaign receipt and expenditure.

Salas raised $30,955, not $59,154.05. He spent $28,199.05.

Rep. Stanley T. Torres also clarified that his receipts totaled $2,100 and his expenditures reached $4,078.82—not $5,100 and $7,078.82 respectively.

The Democratic Party and five other candidates had yet to file their campaign finance reports as of 11am yesterday.

The candidates are the gubernatorial team of former governor Froilan C. Tenorio and Antonio A. Santos, Remedio L. Seman, Julian T. Taimanao, Edward Salas, and Henry K. Rabauliman.

The original deadline for filing the statements of account was Dec. 27, 2005. Candidates who have requested extensions were granted up to 15 additional days to file.

A fine of $100 is assessed candidates for each day that their filing is late.
