With another year in the books, the Marianas Racing Association isn’t wasting any time spinning its wheels as the people who bring the high-revving, high-flying fun to the Cowtown Raceway Park are ushering in the new year with a new board of directors.

Six out of the nine seats on the board will be open to the top vote getters during this Sunday’s election at the Marpi facility, as current president Eric Cruz, vice president Joe Flores, and board member Danny Camacho have another year remaining on their term.

According to current MRA secretary Eleanor Cepeda, once the seats are filled, the newly elected members will convene to decide who among them will fill the top leadership roles for 2006.

Whoever takes the reins this year will have plenty on their plate, as racers have been asking for a total of two races per month. They will also see two of the brightest stars depart for the Federation Internationale de Motocyclismerace (FIM) on Guam when Ellery Cruz and Floyd Dela Cruz race the big boys on Saturday, Jan. 21.

Any time a group of riders get together with their bikes and gear at the track there’s bound to be a race, and this weekend won’t be any different. Voting won’t be the only activity at the Marpi course, as the members will enjoy local style barbeque and spend the day jumping mounds ‘neath the sun atop their steel horses.

All members are reminded that they need to pay their one-time membership fee if they haven’t already. The $25 fee is good for life, and all members have to do is pay their monthly $10 dues.

Once all of the seats are filled, the MRA will turn its focus to the upcoming January Points Race, which is tentatively schedule for Sunday, Jan 29.
