Two months ago, Kelvin Fitial stepped into a cage and fought as a street fighter in the inaugural Trench Warz Fight Night.

Come Jan. 28, Fitial will represent Trench Tech-Purebred Saipan and the CNMI as he heads to Guam and puts his skills to the test in Fury V.

This according to Trench Tech’s Cuki Alvarez, who disclosed yesterday that he and other members of the Purebred Saipan gym will accompany Fitial as he makes his professional debut.

Alvarez, who fought in Fury III: Fighting Islands last April and Fury IV: Collision last December, was also scheduled to fight in the mix martial arts no-holds barred event, however, had to pull out due to a shoulder injury.

Fitial fought in November’s Trench Warz Fight Night against Jason Tarkong in the semi-main event. Fitial was the aggressor as he opened with quick punches to Tarkong’s body. With his height advantage, Fitial dominated when the two were standing, however, Tarkong was able to take the win as the ground fighter erased Fitial’s height and reach advantage by working his opponent to the mat and executing a rear-naked choke that forced Fitial to tap out.

After the fight, Alvarez said he offered Fitial the opportunity to further his skills and train in his gym.

“Kelvin has the potential, just like many other local guys here, so after the fight I offered that he train with us and he’s been sparring with Jason and since the fight, they became close friends,” Alvarez said.

Alvarez did not disclose the name of Fitial’s opponent in Fury V, however, he indicated that the fighter is a grappler.

“Because of that, we have been working with Kelvin on ground fighting,” Alvarez said. “Like a lot of street fighters, he does well really when he’s standing, but we kind a helped him with defense on the ground, what not to do, what to do…things like that.”

Alvarez said Fitial was originally scheduled to fight heavyweight Manny Chong, who also fought and dominated in Fury III in Saipan. The match, however, did not pull through.

Meanwhile, Alvarez explained that Trench Tech will continue promote mix martial arts and train fighters to prep them for possible fights in bigger venues, such as Fury.
