Mini Games refunds out, but NMASA fees due
The Northern Marianas Amateur Sports Association is reminding sports federations that the annual membership fees are due by the end of this month.
NMASA president Michael White disclosed the information during the body’s monthly meeting last Thursday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
According to White, only tennis has submitted its $150 fee. The fee remains at $150 and another $50 will be added on if sports federations pay after January.
Meanwhile, White disclosed that all refunds for the federations that competed in last summer’s Palau South Pacific Mini Games have been released.
White said all checks have been cut and given to the respective federations.
As in the past, each federation was told to raise funds that will shoulder their team’s travel expense and accommodations while in Palau.
Teams were urged to raise at least 50 percent of the total amount needed to send their team to Palau after the CNMI government committed to appropriating $100,000 in support of the CNMI delegation.
All teams that went above the 50-percent mark were then given a refund for the excess amount paid to NMASA.
At Palau, the CNMI competed in baseball, men’s and women’s fast pitch softball, outrigger canoeing, swimming, table tennis, wrestling, athletics, wrestling, and triathlon.
In other NMASA financial news, White continues to urge all federations that will sport teams to the upcoming Micronesian Games to raise funds.
With the Games being hosting by the CNMI, federations will not have to raise as much funds compared to when competition was held off island.
All federations, however, must be able to shoulder the cost for accommodations, which may turn out to be $30 per member.
“So plan accordingly and start raising money now,” White told all in attendance.
During the meeting, concerns were also raised on whether CNMI athletes can take advantage of hosting the Games by residing at their homes during the two-week quadrennial event.
No official decision has been made yet on whether CNMI athletes must reside at the Micro Games village or if they will be able to live at home.
