DLNR’s Seman steps down today
The two years he has spent at the Department of Lands and Natural Resources were very challenging yet very enjoyable, according to outgoing Secretary Richard Seman.
In an interview with Saipan Tribune yesterday, Seman said he would cherish forever the two years he had spent with his colleagues at DLNR, whom he considers to be the finest people he has worked with.
“I appreciate their respect,” he said, adding that whoever takes over his post will be shown the same respect and courtesy by the department’s staff.
Seman officially tendered his resignation effective Jan. 8 but said he opted to make today his last working day for the department.
He served as DLNR secretary for two years.
He considers one of his legacies the distribution of commercial farm plot to local farmers. Seman said he started the project immediately when he took office two years ago. He said his office lobbied for a smoother and faster regulatory requirement implementation. He said these regulations usually cause the delay in the distribution of the lots for local farmers.
“Commercial farm plots are issued to applicants for the purpose of conducting commercial farming,” Seman said.
His office also reduced the fees and other financial requirements for local farmers to conduct commercial farming.
Aside from the commercial farm plot distribution, Seman said his office had been instrumental in the renovation of the Rota Marina and the Smiling Cove Marina on Saipan.
Seman said there are a number of ongoing significant projects at the department and most of these projects are under the Division of Agriculture, which has made a difference in uplifting the CNMI’s agricultural industry.
