Department of Community and Cultural Affairs-Tinian lauded Team Tinian for its third-place finish in the recent 2005 IVYBL Christmas Tournament on Saipan.

In a statement, DCCA-Tinian recognized the team’s efforts in securing a playoff berth and performing well in the consolation game to win the trophy and $125.

Tinian made good on their trip to Saipan after beating San Antonio II in their opener, 66-11, and reached the semifinals after putting up a strong second half effort to beat the Chalan Kanoa Saints in the final game of the elimination round.

The team lost to San Antonio I in the semis, but put up a stronger fight in the consolation game to beat Garapan-Rollers II.

Satisfied with the organizing of the tournament, the DCCA-Tinian also lauded organizers for a well-run competition, as well as sponsors who assisted the team.

This annual tournament…is made possible through the generosity and hard work of many,” the office said. “The success of the tournament is truly a community partnership. On behalf of the DCCA Tinian, we would like to thank our team sponsors for providing invaluable services and contribution.”

Those who sponsored the team were Office of the Tinian Mayor, Kids Arts and Programs, Sen.-elect Jude Hofschneider, and Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino’s Das Krishnan. (Shan Seman)
