TOY awardee to receive $14K teaching equipment
CNMI Teacher of the Year Charlotte Camacho is up for a $14,000 reward in the form of technology equipment from Smarter Kids Foundation.
Camacho, a Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School teacher, told Saipan Tribune yesterday that she, together with other TOY awardees from the Pacific, would be flying to Dallas, Texas on Jan. 23 for a technology summit to be attended by other TOY winners across the United States.
She said organizer Smarter Kids Foundation is hosting the event. Part of the summit is a seminar and training for all the high-tech teaching equipment that will be given to each attendee. All teachers in the summit will receive $14,000 worth of advanced teaching equipment such as laptops and many more. Camacho clarified, though, that there would be no cash reward.
The equipment, she said, would equip teachers with the latest technology in imparting knowledge to their students. More than 80 teachers will convene in the summit.
“Guam and American Samoa will also be joining,” Camacho said.
“I’m excited with all the upcoming training,” she said.
Saipan Tribune caught up with Camacho yesterday while she was doing her rounds of all government agencies to solicit for assistance for the slated trip.
Camacho said she went to the Marianas Visitors Authority, the CNMI Museum for History and Culture, and others to get some souvenir items about the CNMI. She said she needed these materials because she would be representing the CNMI in the summit and a designated booth would be set up for the CNMI during the event.
The CNMI Teacher of the Year said she would also show some materials about her school.
Camacho has been teaching for the past 10 years. She was awarded the CNMI Teacher of the Year a day before Thanksgiving last year.
She said she has been with GTC for seven years and that she truly enjoys working with the school because she loves working with children.
