The top team in the Women’s Island-Wide Slow-Pitch Softball League continued to roll over the competition in the Saipan Softball Association on Tuesday night when Bomsoro riddled the Sai-Steve Rookies, 22-12, under the lights at Tan Ge Softball Field in Oleai.

There was little doubt who was the undefeated team and who has yet to win as Jovie Omar and Bomsoro forced the umpires to invoke the 10-run mercy rule in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Bomsoro (5-0) made the big splash in their new red, white, and blue uniforms as Omar pitched her way to her fourth win of the season. Aside from throwing the ball around, Omar did a great job smacking it around the park as she went 3-for-4 at the plate with two singles, a triple, and three runs batted in.

She didn’t have to do all of the work alone, as shortstop Joyce Taro went a perfect 4-for-4 with a pair of singles, two triples, a run batted in and two scores, while rookie second baseman Arcy Moncrief went 2-for-3 with a pair of base knocks and two ribbies.

After taking a 6-4 lead through the first inning, Bomsoro unleashed a bomb in the top of the second when they exploded for 11 runs to put the game out of reach for good.

While the Rookies fell to 0-4, they improved as a team through some standout performances on the diamond. Pitcher Elsie San Nicolas took a come-backer square in the knee during the first inning, but she shook it off like a trooper and continued to send artful arcs toward home plate for the remainder of the game.

Her sister, Bedu, on the other hand brought about reason for excitement in the top of the fifth inning as she recorded back to back outs from her post in left field. While it may not seem like major feat to the seasoned players of the SSA, the first-timers leapt to their feet and sent Bomsoro back to their dugout with a one-two-three inning.

“That felt so good. I feel good. We’re improving,” said San Nicolas.

Hitters 13, Lady-8ers 3

The Hitters improved their record at 3-2 on Tuesday night when they obliterated the Tanapag Lady-8ers (1-4), 13-3, on the strength of solid team play all around the field. Once again, the Hitters got big performances from their big players, as All-Star Emi Quitugua and Thelma Mizer each went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Quitugua hit a single and an inside-the-park three-run homerun, while Mizer hit a pair of doubles and drove in two runs. While she had a good night, Mizer said that she could have had a better one had she hit the ball a little bit harder in the first inning.

“There were runners on base and I hit it out to the left and hit the fence on the fly. Everyone came in, I reached third base with a slide—a split, but the umpire didn’t see my right leg and called me out. But it’s a game, and the umpire is always right—even if you think you’re always right,” she said.

The duo wasn’t the only reason for the Hitters’ success as first baseman Pauline Tudela went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and three runs batted in, and third baseman Angela Ngirbedul also went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple.

Its Okay 14, Pacific Amigas 7

The Pacific Amigas were locked in a close game with Its Okay for the first inning and a half, but all of that ended when the Okay club railed off seven runs in the bottom of the second to take control of the contest en route to evening up their record at 3-3.

Second baseman Shirley Ada was on fire for Its Okay at the plate as she smacked a single and an inside-the-park three-run homerun to propel her team to the league’s upper tier. Ada’s heroics were followed by solid outings from outfielders Janice Camacho and Erlinda Naputi—each of whom hit a pair of singles and drove in two runs to drop the Amigas to 2-3 on the season.

All of the action in the women’s league continues tonight as the Lady 8-ers search for their second win against the Rookies at 6:30pm, followed by the 7:30pm match between Its Okay and Hitters, and finale between undefeated Bomsoro and the second place Mix-A-Lot at 8:30pm.
