Man arrested for allegedly beating pregnant partner
A man allegedly beat up his five-month pregnant partner at their apartment in Koblerville on New Year’s Eve, according to court documents.
Mingko Hartman Meipin, 24, was detained for alleged assault and battery, and interfering with a domestic violence report.
During a bail hearing yesterday, Superior Court Associate Judge Juan T. Lizama imposed a $5,000 cash bail for Meipin’s temporary liberty.
Detective Andrea Ozawa stated in her report filed in court that the victim had a red spot in the forehead and a bump on the back of her head.
Ozawa said preliminary investigation showed that Meipin and the victim had an argument.
Meipin walked out of the room and just as the victim was about to exit the door, he slammed the screen door. The door hit the victim’s stomach, the detective said.
The couple left the apartment to pick up their son in Kagman, but while they were in the car they continued arguing. The defendant stopped the car along the main road and walked back to the apartment.
The victim drove back the car to the apartment. Later, the suspect allegedly grabbed a plastic chair and hit the victim with it on the back of her head.
He then began punching the victim, who also scratched him, police said.
Meipin stopped his alleged attack on the victim only when his mother came to pacify him. While the victim was calling some family members, the defendant again allegedly started punching her.
While Meipin was talking to his mother, the victim called the police.
The suspect had already left when the police arrived. But when he later returned, the victim called the police again. The defendant was arrested.
