The Chiefs opened 2006 with a bang Monday night as the team won the first Budweiser/Bud Light Bowlliards Tournament of new year with a 68-49 victory over the Indians at the USSP Club in Garapan.

With many players still in the New Year celebration mode, the tournament was not able to get underway until 9pm, however, the wait was worth it as the Chiefs put on a show after getting off to a slow start.

The Chiefs were up by just a point, 2-1, after the first frame, and soon found themselves trailing after Mei Rengiil pocketed all the balls for a strike in the second frame and Big Ron Chisato knocked in four points in the third frame to swing favor to the Indians, 17-13.

After getting into a rhythm, both teams put up better performances in the following frames.

Annie Tesiro, Chris Chlarson, and Reek Rengiil got their angles right on majority of their attempts and lifted the Chiefs back to the frontrunner position after the next three frames as the team turned their deficit into a five-point breathing room, 34-29.

The dynamic trio continued to have their way and dominated the next three frames to stretch their lead to 13-points, 58-45.

The Indians tried to pull close in the final frame, however, they only managed three points, while the Chiefs cruised away and put the icing on the cake to finish with 68 points for the win.

Reek Rengiil was on fire and had two strikes to lead the Chiefs with 38 points, while Chlarson and Tesiro finished with 23 and seven points. Chlarson pocketed all 10 balls in the fifth and eighth frame, however, he was not awarded strikes as he fouled while breaking on both occasions.

Mei Rengiil paced the Indians with 24 points while Ace Elameto and Chisato contributed 15 and 10 points.

With the win, the Chiefs received Budweiser-Bud Light prizes courtesy of MARPAC.

According to organizer and USSP Club owner Rose Phillips, each team had three players for the tournament. More players showed up after 10pm and were not able to take part.

The Budweiser/Bud Light Bowlliards Tournament is held every Monday night at USSP Club in Garapan, and is open to all interested players.

Phillips said as a treat for all players, there is a special price for Bud Family beverages. In-house treat also includes beverages for under a dollar from 9pm to 10pm.
