Marissa Deleon Guerrero is SSA hitting terror
Before the Saipan Softball Association turned on the lights and got any of last night’s games at Tan Ge Softball Field got underway, Mix-A-Lot had the batter that hits a lot—in fact, Marissa Deleon Guerrero hit the most in the Women’s Island-Wide Slow-Pitch Softball League.
Deleon Guerrero has been a menace to opposing pitchers as only one has been able to get her out through four games this season. The Mix-A-Lot’s top hitter leads the league by hitting 13-for-14 for a .929 batting average—a mark that tops all of Saipan softball to include the men’s leagues.
Deleon Guerrero has made her hits count as well by knocking in a pair of triples and leading the league with a pair of homeruns. Aside form wielding the big stick, Deleon Guerrero also has a knack for finding her way home, as she is second in the league with 11 runs scored.
She and teammate Jenny Palacios are a big reason that Mix-A-Lot is in second place at 3-1. Palacios is currently seventh in the league with a .714 batting average, and she clocked a pair of doubles and hit successfully in 10-of-14 attempts at the plate.
Its Okay also has a pair of powerful hitters, as Sheena Sablan and Lucy Aldan fill out the second and third places in the batting race, respectively. Sablan boasts a meaty .813 batting average and 10 runs batted in, while Aldan has a standout .769 average, smacked a homerun, and leads the league with 12 runs scored.
The duo has done plenty of damage from the plate, as have their teammates Mercy Lynn Santos and Norma Mira. Santos crossed home plate nine times while Mira hit three doubles, leads all hitters with three triples, and shares the lead in runs batted in with Jovie Omar of Bomsoro with 12 apiece.
With so much talent, it’s difficult to see why its Okay is in fifth place at 2-3. There are no similarities with Bomsoro, as the league’s only undefeated team has three of the top hitters and a 4-0 record.
Omar leads her team with a .733 batting average, is the league leader with five doubles, and smacked a pair of triples, while Dolores Rangamar has the fifth spot amongst women with a .727 average, hit two three-baggers, drove in eight runs, and scored 11 of her own.
Rangamar is joined by well-rounded athlete Connie Camacho on the top scoring list as Camacho accounted for 10 tallies while Beverly Skerei tied Rangamar with eight ribbies.
Add to that Leilani Betevua’s 10-for-15 .667 batting average and becomes clear why Bomsoro is doing so well.
While her team is languishing at the bottom of the pack at 1-3, Jennifer Teigita of the Lady 8-ers is doing just fine, as she tied Rangamar with a .727 batting average after hitting 8-for-11 on the season.
Her team may do a little better if she gets a little help from her friends, but that’s not a problem for Lenice Kapileo and Nadia Saralu of the Pacific Amigas. The pair of pals has provided plenty of production to the Pacific cause as Kapileo racked up a .714 batting average, two triples, and nine runs scored.
Saralu has been doing well on her side by hitting 9-for-14 for a .643 average, recording four doubles, a homerun, and 10 runs batted in.
