While the Northern Mariana Islands Triathlon Federation has been busy putting together a number of races for its adult endurance enthusiasts, they have not forgotten about their junior members as they are just days away from the first Kids Tryathlon of the new year.

In an effort to provide the next generation a chance at living a healthy lifestyle, the NMITF will offer an assortment of abbreviated distance races to kids of all ages this Saturday, Jan. 7, beginning at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool in Marpi.

According to race coordinator Sue Knecht, this weekend’s event will be the first of a point series. While awards will be distributed to all of the top male and female finishers in each age division, a special point bonus will go to the kids who complete all the Tryathlons in the series.

The youngest competitors will compete in the 5-and-under Tykes and Trikes division, while the rest of the kids will be split up into the 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, and 12-13-year-old divisions.

Registration for the multisport melee begins bright and early at 6:45am, with the first events beginning at 7:30am. For more information about the Kids Tryathlon Series, contact Knecht via email at sueknecht1@yahoo.com.
