Final House session on Friday
The 14th House of Representatives will have its last session on Friday, Dec. 30, 2005.
House leadership spokesman Charles Reyes Jr. said that the agenda was still being drafted yesterday. “The members will probably just wrap things up and close the 14th House formally,” he said.
The meeting is tentatively scheduled to begin at 10am Friday.
The 14th House, which took office in January 2004, has been led by Speaker Benigno R. Fitial and Vice Speaker Timothy P. Villagomez. The two officials will take over the Executive Branch on Jan. 9, 2006.
The 15th Legislature will be sworn in on the same day.
Current House Majority Leader Oscar Babauta has reportedly been endorsed to be the speaker of the 15th House, with Rep. Ray Yumul being eyed to serve as vice speaker.
The Covenant Party is expected to again rule the Lower House. Seven Covenant members won House seats in the Nov. 5 election: Cinta Kaipat, Oscar Babauta, Jesus Lizama, Francisco Dela Cruz, Absalon Waki Jr., Edwin Aldan, and Crispin Ogo.
Independent candidate Ray Yumul, originally a Covenant Party member, will likely rejoin the party. Incumbent Rep. Justo Quitugua has an alliance with the Covenant Party.
The Republicans in the 15th House will be incumbents Martin Ada, Joseph Deleon Guerrero, Benjamin Seman, Arnold Palacios, and Tebuteb, as well as Manuel Tenorio and Candido Taman.
Representative-elect Stanley Torres, who has aligned himself with the GOP during his previous terms in the Legislature, is expected to join the Republicans.
It is not known whether Rep.-elect Florencio Deleon Guerrero will follow the lead of his fellow Democrat, Quitugua.
