The Department of Public Safety issued yesterday a warning against persons who would fire their guns during the New Year’s celebration.

Acting DPS spokesman Eric David said that persons caught using guns to celebrate New Year will be arrested and charged with misuse of firearms.

The firearms will also be confiscated, David added.

The spokesman also issued the same warning to police officers who would fire their guns or service-issued firearms on this day.

Police officers caught firing their guns will be dealt with criminally and administratively, David said.

DPS received some reports in the past that guns had been fired indiscriminately during New Year festivities on the island.

Fortunately, no one has been hit so far. No police officers or any law enforcers have been arrested for firing guns during the celebration, police said.
