The newly elected officers of the Saipan Chamber of Commerce will be formally installed during its gala night at the Fiesta Resort Hotel & Spa on Tuesday, Jan. 10.

The installation dinner begins at 6:30pm at the hotel’s Hibiscus Hall.

Gov.-elect Benigno R. Fitial, whose inauguration comes a day earlier, will serve as the keynote speaker during the night.

Also delivering his remarks will be Department of the Interior’s deputy assistant secretary for insular affairs David B. Cohen.

Other speakers are outgoing SCC president Alex Sablan and incoming president Charles V. Cepeda.

“The evening promises to be informative and an important harbinger of the year ahead,” said SCC executive director Christine Parke.

Aside from the dinner, entertainment, and presentations, the evening also includes a silent auction of “high-quality items.”

Proceeds from the auction will support the Chamber’s special projects fund, she said.

Meantime, the officers to be installed are Cepeda of Pacific Trading Company as president, Alex Sablan of Saipan Shipping Company as vice president, Michael Johnson of Deloitte & Touche as treasurer, and Jay Jones of Triple J Motors as secretary.

The SCC directors for 2006 are Jim Arenovski, Delta Management; Kathryn Barry, Coca-Cola Beverage Co.; Harry Blalock, KZMI/KCNM; Juan T. Guerrero, Juan T. Guerrero & Associates; and David M. Sablan, Century Insurance Company.

Cepeda is currently the general manager of PTC.

He graduated from Marianas High School and moved to Hayward, California where he attended Chabot Community College. He came back to Saipan in 1993 and worked for J.C. Tenorio Enterprises as a buyer/manager for Athlete’s Foot and Las Vegas Discount Golf & Tennis. In 1996, he joined PTC.

Cepeda has been a member of the chamber since 2001. He served as a board member and chairman of its events committee for the past two years.
