It was a smooth Christmas weekend, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Eric David.

David, in a telephone interview with the Saipan Tribune yesterday, said no murder or fatalities were reported to DPS over the weekend.

David said there were some vehicular accidents on the island, but they were not serious.

No fire was also reported.

“It was a peaceful Christmas celebration,” he said.

David said DPS concentrated on drunk drivers as they put up a total of nine sobriety checkpoints from Thursday to Saturday in different areas on Saipan.

He said he would release today the tally on the number of persons arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol.

David also advised the public that parents or adults should supervise the children who will light up firecrackers or fireworks during New Year’s festivities.
