‘All set for the inauguration’
All is set for the Jan. 9 inauguration of the incoming administration of governor-elect Benigno Fitial and lieutenant-governor-elect Timothy Villagomez, according to an officer of the transition team.
Miriam Seman, who is in charge of managing the transition team’s operations, told the Saipan Tribune that the inauguration Mass will be held at the Mt. Carmel Cathedral on Jan. 8 at 3pm.
Seman said the inauguration ceremony would then be held at the American Memorial Park on Jan. 9 at 2pm.
The inaugural ball will follow at the World Resort in Susupe, Seman said.
When asked about prominent personalities expected to grace the inaugural ceremony, she only hinted that there will be “VIPs” coming from Washington D.C.
“We have to check with the inaugural committee on the listing of all invitees for the inauguration,” Seman said as she explained that Timothy Villagomez’s brother, Joseph Kevin Villagomez, is in charge of the inauguration program.
“Everything is pretty good all around. We’re just assisting the transition team; we are also assisting the inauguration team,” Seman said.
She said her office is helping the committees through clerical work—if they need some typing to be done or reports to be completed.
When asked if she will get a Cabinet position, Seman said, “I don’t think so. I don’t even know because I’m already a retired employee. We don’t know who the governor will choose,” she said.
“The way I look at the people, the thinking was that because we appointed people to go out and chair committees for the transition does not necessarily mean that these people will be the Cabinet members,” she said.
Seman said it is up to Fitial and Villagomez to choose who will be their Cabinet members and that the transition members are only helping the incoming administration.
