A plea for help for our furred friends

On behalf of Tinian pet lovers, I would like to thank PAWS for making Minnie the Pet of the Month. Because PAWS organizers made Minnie the Pet of the Month, Minnie went to Saipan where Dr. Ed Tudor attended to her health care needs. Happily, a kind gentleman who is making sure that Minnie gets her vitamins has adopted her.

However, for other dogs and cats on Tinian, the story is grim. Many Tinian pet owners cannot afford to fly their pets to Saipan for medical services. Nor are we given a straight answer regarding veterinarian services. First, as the government vet, is Dr. Dela Cruz supposed to service the island of Tinian and provide affordable puppy care clinics for local pet owners? If Dr. Dela Cruz is supposed to do so, is someone keeping him from providing this service to Tinian? Second, can a veterinarian from the Philippines be licensed to work in the CNMI? Or is there someone who is against this? There are many rumors as to why pet owners have not seen Dr. Dela Cruz on Tinian; therefore, I hope someone is able to address these questions.

Finally, a special thank you to the 252 Tinian residents who signed the petition requesting assistance from our local officials to find reliable and affordable veterinarian services for Tinian pet owners. Meanwhile, please consider making it a New Year’s resolution to support PAWS by becoming a member.
