Daughter who asked dad for more X’mas money allegedly beaten up
A man allegedly punched his daughter in the mouth and choked her when she asked for more money to buy clothes for Christmas, according to court papers.
Carlos N. Dowai, 46, was arrested on two counts of child abuse. A $5,000 cash bail was set for his temporary release.
The Superior Court set the preliminary hearing on Dec. 29, 2005.
Chief Prosecutor Jeffrey Moots stated in the information filed yesterday that Dowai punched and choked his 11-year-old daughter on Dec. 15, 2005.
Detective Patrick Earl Maanao said it was the daughter who called police on that day to report the beating.
Maanao stated in his report that the girl, accompanied by her cousin, went to Dowai’s jobsite to get money so she could buy Christmas clothes.
The girl reportedly got mad when she saw her father sitting on a picnic table and drinking beer with his girlfriend. The girl said she got upset because her father has a girlfriend while her mother is working in the U.S. mainland.
Dowai allegedly grabbed the girl’s arm and dragged her to the car. The girl reportedly fell to the ground, hurting her right leg. Dowai allegedly shouted at his daughter before giving her $40 and asking her to leave.
The girl later went back to ask for $20 more. Dowai refused to give her the money, pushed her into the car and choked her, the detective said.
Dowai allegedly told his daughter that, as it was him who made her, he could also kill her.
The girl said her father also punched her on the right side of the head. (Ferdie de la Torre)
