One-hundred-thirty-eight Japanese junior high school students took the premises of Mount Carmel School by storm during a whole day cultural exchange program last Friday.

The Japanese students were all from Kosiji Junior High School and Tsukayama Junior High School of Niigata Prefecture. Faculty members from both schools accompanied the students.

The Japanese students showcased modern dance numbers featuring pop and hip-hop music. MCS’ 6th grade students in turn performed their own song and dance numbers.

MCS’ 6th to 8th grade students who are currently taking Japanese courses also sang “Jingle Bells” in Japanese.

In the afternoon, students from all three schools played tug-o-war and Hula Hoop relay.

After the sports and recreational activities, students gathered in classrooms where they had the chance to mingle and interact with each other.

The Japanese students also visited famous tourist spots on the island such as the Banzai Cliff, Last Command Post, and Suicide Cliff, among many others. They left the island Saturday midnight to head back home.
