DPS to conduct OP/CR and DUI/Sobriety checkpoints on Dec. 23 and 24

The Department of Public Safety’s Traffic Section will be conducting Occupant Protection/Child Restraint and DUI/Sobriety checkpoints on the day and times listed.
Dec. 23
The first set up will be on 2W Highway Gualo Rai by the Saipan Cockpit. This operation will commence at approximately 8pm and will terminate at approximately 9:15pm.
The second set up will be on Beach Road Chalan Kanoa by Carmen Safeway. This operation will commence at approximately 10:30pm and will terminate at approximately 11:45pm.
Dec. 24
The first set up will be on Beach Road Chalan Lau Lau by B&R Repair Shop. This operation will commence at approximately 1:30am and will terminate at approximately 2:45am.
The second set up will be on 2W Highway Chalan Lau Lau by Verizon. This operation will commence at approximately 1:30am and will terminate at approximately 2:45am.
Both first and second checkpoints will be set up and in operation simultaneously.
The third set up will be on Beach Road Susupe by Minachom Atdao. This operation will commence at approximately 11am and will terminate at approximately 12:15pm.
The fourth set up will be on 2W Highway Garapan by CNMI Museum. This operation will commence at approximately 3pm and will terminate at approximately 4:15pm.
Each checkpoint conducted will last at least 75 minutes (1 hour 15 minutes) at each location. This activity is part of the DPS’ efforts to deter and detect impaired drivers and to ensure that all vehicle occupants are protected.
In addition, the traffic officers will be conducting Highway Criminal Interdictions, Saturation Patrols, Aggressive Driver Interdictions, and Laser activities.
