PFC Maynard D. Reyes from Saipan was among 500 soldiers who recently finished an intensive nine weeks of combat training and took his oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States” on Dec. 16, 2005 at a graduation ceremony at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.

The special ceremony marked the transition of Reyes from civilian to being an American soldier. With the ceremony, Reyes joins the hundreds of sons and daughters of the CNMI responding to the call of duty to serve and defend the United States.

Reyes is the son of Darlene Duenas and Joe Reyes of Chalan Kiya, Saipan. He is a graduate of Marianas High School Class of 2005.

As he enters the ranks of the United States Army, he is highly motivated, disciplined, physically fit, mentally tough, and well trained in fundamental combat skills.

The graduation ceremony was attended by Frank Agulto, on behalf of Resident Representative Pete A. Tenorio.

“On behalf of the citizens of the Commonwealth, I congratulate and salute you on your accomplishment and your commitment to defend our American values and way of life in the service of our great Nation. It is a proud moment and an overwhelming experience to see one of our citizens from the CNMI become an American soldier. I wish Pvt. Maynard Reyes the best and Godspeed in his service to our country,” Tenorio said.

Reyes will remain at Fort Jackson for addition months of advance training in light wheel mechanic. (PR)
