The Commonwealth Development Authority board has approved the hiring of a new executive director, replacing recently retired executive director Maria Lourdes S. Ada.

CDA board chairman Tom Glen Quitugua said the board agreed during a recent meeting to release a job vacancy announcement for the top post, which is currently held by loan manager Oscar Camacho.

“It will be out if not this week, then next week. We have to hire a new director and move ahead,” said Quitugua.

He said the hiring would be open to off-island hires noting that the vacancy is also posted online.

The chairman said the salary package depends on the applicant’s qualification.

“We’re looking for a person with high business acumen. Somebody who can be entrusted with handling bonds, and all these issues,” said the chairman.

Quitugua earlier said that the board would “restructure” the executive director position before opening it to potential applicants.

The executive director was paid $84,000 a year.

Ada, who holds a law degree, was promoted to the top executive post in 1999.

She worked at the agency for more than a decade.

She retired and left the CDA on Nov. 30.
