NYBA to host open league in March
The Northern Youth Basketball Association announced that it will host its inaugural league on March of next year.
This according to NYBA president Joe Diaz, who disclosed that unlike the tournament held this past November, the league will be open to any team interested.
“Any team can play, whether you’re from the north, central, south…its open to everyone,” Diaz said.
Diaz added that with officials of the NYBA getting some enlightening experience, and because of the positive reactions and turnouts in their November tournament, the association will expand the age categories as five divisions will be featured in the league.
“We’re going to have the 16-and-under, 14-and-under, 12-and-under, 10-and-under, and 8-and-under divisions,” he said.
All interested teams must pay a $150 entrance fee, with the first five teams getting free uniforms.
The NYBA tournament, which was held on Thanksgiving week, featured three divisions, with the Capitol Hill Stars taking the 19-and-under title, and the G-Rollers winning the 13-15 and 12-and-under championships.
NYBA then assembled all-star teams from each division and competed in the Shell Guam 2005 Drug-Free Thanksgiving Youth Basketball Invitational. The Saipan All Stars were successful, bringing home two championships and a first runner-up trophy.
