Hot Myx clinches first, playoffs all set
The Hot Myx put the wraps on their nearly perfect season on Wednesday night when they swept Jon Cramer’s Got Beer? brew crew in straight sets to finish the season atop the 7th Annual Miller Lite Coed Four-Person Beach Volleyball League standings at 13-1.
The Myx took the trio of sets by a combined score of 33-17, but got a run for their money in the second when Got Beer? pushed them to the limit, 11-9. The loss dropped the brew crew to fifth overall and eligible for the postseason at 10-4—which is more than either of the three school teams could say.
Saipan International School won its third game of the season by thumping the Grace Christian Academy by taking two of three, but the Eagles believed they could fly and took the second set 11-3 despite falling in the third, 11-0.
The Geckos closed out their season at 3-11 while GCA was 1-13, but they finished above the Sugoi Seven by virtue of their head-to-head tie breaker.
Marianas High School was the most productive of the student-led teams as the Dolphins notched their fourth win by sweeping Galuti, 11-1, 11-9, and 11-7, to finish 4-10. Four wins was just a start for the Beach Road learning brigade, as they will surely return in the future with their eyes on the prize.
Wednesday night’s action took a wrong turn from there as America F@#& Yeah! lost to Pugua Time! via forfeit, and You’re My Boy Blue! and the rarely seen Namete club pulled off a double forfeit to end the season on a low note.
Be that as it may, the final games set up last night’s playoff bracket. The results will be available in tomorrow’s issue of the Saipan Tribune, and the competition looks fierce in the double elimination round.
The Hot Myx open up against Puff, Puff, Pass while Pugua Time! looks to edge Got Beer? in the ensuing contest. America F@#& Yeah! is next up when they face Lick It, Stick It, Smack It, and the final opening round match pits Galuti against Palaksi.
On Tuesday night, Palaksi locked in a top three finish by taking two of three against Galuti to close out its schedule at the Pacific Islands Club.
Palaksi improved to 12-2 after taking the first two sets in thrilling fashion, 12-10 and 11-7.
