Pangelinan, Minor win doubles 4.5
Veterans Roy Pangelinan and Boyet Minor made it to the champions list in the doubles segment of the 3rd Taga Tennis Tournament with solid play Wednesday night at the American Memorial Park tennis courts.
The dynamic duo got the start they wanted against fellow finalists Nanding Cajigan and Dr. Alberto Ventura in the men’s doubles 4.5,and went on to grab the early advantage with a 6-3 victory.
Cajigan and Ventura put up a better fight in the second set, however, they didn’t have enough juice to stretch the match as Pangelinan and Minor took top honors with the 7-6 (7-2) clincher.
For their part, Feel Kalen and Richard Asuncion scored a straight sets victory over John Wayne Kintaro and Hiub Ngirachemor 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the finals of the men’s doubles 4.0, while Ventura and Ronnie Lacbayo stopped Jorge Olanda and Edwin Maratas 6-3, 7-5.
Also finding success were Bobby Nato and Das Narayanan as they advanced in the men’s 2.0 with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Sonny Shakir and Alex Katta.
Meanwhile, the one-two punch of Jaime Hagos and Ed Casing and the team of Art Lopez and Mario Buensuceso were still playing their 3.0 finals when their match was stopped due to rain. Lopez and Buensuceso were leading when the match was rescheduled.
The tournament will conclude with an awards banquet/Christmas Party tomorrow, Dec. 17, at Hot City Disco, San Jose, where another sponsor, Ocean Palace Shark’s Fin Seafood Restaurant, will be providing some of the dishes.
